The shootings on May 4, 1970 were not planned into the
individual lives of those they touched. Many present were
students, like Alan Canfora, who decided to rally together for
a cause that affected their generation. Some were chance
passersby, such as John Cleary and John Filo. Yet, many
others experience with May 4 began years later, including
Bruno Ast, who turned to his inner emotions for the design of
what is now the May 4 Memorial. But no matter how these
individuals were drawn into the event, May 4 continues
to linger with them.
